ABOUT  SUSAN

Hello.  I'm Susan, a food photographer and recipe developer based out of Brooklyn, NY.  I'm a reformed musician, who worked on the corporate side of Broadway post-college and finally realized what sparked joy in life was cooking and photo taking.

I'm a self-taught, home cook who grew up in a household of passionate food lovers.  My love for food and cooking developed early – from fishing with my dad, to entering the kitchens of the restaurants my brothers worked at and to visiting the local farms all over Long Island. Our food was made from scratch and with love and I take those memories into the kitchen with me today.

We did more than cook in our house growing up, creativity flowed with music, artwork and photography.  It was a natural progression to pick up the camera after watching it in my dad's capable hands at every photographic opportunity.

In 2011, I started The Girl In The Little Red Kitchen with the desire to share my love of from scratch, wholesome and seasonal food.  I love developing using fresh produce that's seasonally available to craft healthy-ish meals with that indulgent dessert and craft cocktail tossed in.  I believe a happy life is an equal balance between it all.  In 2014, I opened my Bake Shop where I share my passion for good eats crafting wholesomly delicious cookies made with mostly organic, non-GMO and fair trade ingredients and never any preservatives.

I love spending time with my camera, photographing new ways to make each recipe pop off the screen and to have it look as delectable in photos as is does to eat.  My photography as been featured on sites such as BuzzFeed, MSN, The Huffington Post, Parade, AOL & Brit & Co.
